Just Stay ...
A Couple's Last Journey Together
Jennifer Fazakerley | Helen Butlin-Battler | Grace Bradish
320 pages • paperback • 6" x 9"
In August 2009, Rob and Jen Fazakerley learned that Rob had cancer of the pancreas, which had spread. They accepted immediately the certain outcome of this diagnosis and sought to make the time remaining as good and full as possible. E-mail linked Jen with caregivers Grace and Helen and a growing band of supporters, documenting the daily reality of the medications, chemotherapy, family and friends, and emotions of living well with a terminal illness. As Judy Maddren writes in her foreword: “Just Stay ... is a book with a predictable end, but the story that takes you there is probably nothing you could imagine.”
All three authors live and work in the caring professions in the London area of southwestern Ontario. Jennifer Fazakerley is a regional manager with the South West Community Care Access Centre, where Grace Bradish is a home visiting nurse practitioner. Helen Butlin-Battler is a spiritual care specialist with the London Regional Cancer Program.
“Although we must all walk through death's door alone, the journey there need not be a solitary one. For Rob Fazakerley, three remarkable women shared every step with him. A truly poignant story.”
“The writing is superb. It is clear, compelling, inspirational. Perfect. I was riveted from the first sentence.”
“Just Stay... reveals the best of who we can be, as individuals and as a community. Most of all, it shows us in exquisite, beautiful detail how growth and healing are possible, even while someone is dying.”
